At Proteans, effective Knowledge Transfer (KT) is central to identifying and addressing potential project risks, and this involves

Proteans has created an innovative knowledge transfer framework that is structured into different phases with seamless transition between phases. The different phases include
1. Pre-KT
This typically starts with onsite visit by either party (customer / Proteans) to understand product vision / product roadmap, for functional discussions. Some engagements require identifying training needs on third-party tools or customer’s in-house tools. All these help to create requirement documents.
2. Resource Identification
At Proteans, we have a proven delivery structure for every engagement that is owned from program management perspective by a Group Program Manager and led by a Project Manager from delivery perspective. We believe the resources from both stakeholders (customer and Proteans) will depend on the complexity of the product from technical and functionality perspective. It will also depend on the outsourcing objectives and the activities that will be carried out offshore post knowledge transfer. Once the KT team members are identified, the internal learning process starts.
3. Knowledge Transfer
This phase starts with deeper understanding of product architecture and conducting technical discussions. Process flows and Use cases are prepared and different methods and tools are used to enhance the effectiveness of KT sessions
Some of our best practices in preparing training materials include -
4. Sprint Participation
Knowledge Transition to offshore team starts along with the technology training needs that is identified and fulfilled. The offshore team on achieving clarity in the immediate scope of work is now assigned to contribute in the Sprint and also participate in the bug fixing /enhancement. This helps to create clear understanding of the processes /configuration management in the offshore team.
5. High Performing Team
Finally, the offshore team assumes complete ownership of the Sprint / Release; formalizes SLA, Service reporting and reviews, and service improvements.
At Proteans, we meticulously build a product knowledgebase that includes all engagement related documents, videos, minutes of meeting of discussion with client and feedbacks. This is a continuous process and plays a very important part in KT to offshore team as well as to new team members and jumpstart to development activity. Further, this also leads to continual improvement process resulting in high quality software releases. Refer diagram below

At Proteans, team-building forms a very important aspect of every customer engagement. Both onsite/offsite teams have clear expectations set by the management and have extensive one-to-one interactions during knowledge transition. There are social interactions and other informal sessions to bring about the cultural alignment that is crucial to the success of the engagement.
